Welcome to Moved. I'm Jemimah Hiscox and I'm a movement enthusiast. We live in a sedentary society and are paying the price for it. The increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases confirms that we, as a society, are not meeting our body's requirements for optimal health.
Movement is a powerful way to maintain and improve health and quality of life. Movement changes bodies right down to the cellular level, preventing disease and injury. It also offers a range of other benefits, including (but not limited to) improved mental health, better sleep, enhanced thinking and learning skills and longevity.
My goal is to help you see movement as much more than just exercise, opening up endless possibilities to move more and move more of yourself everyday.
I help you to become aware of and move the 'stagnant' areas of your body that you keep bypassing, due to the patterns and habits you have developed over your lifetime. Addressing these areas will help to reduce wear-and-tear and provide your body with the movement-nourishment it needs to thrive.
At Moved Armidale, we follow a natural movement philosophy, taking ideas from various natural and restorative movement ideologies. We help you implement these concepts into your everyday life, tailoring movement to your individual needs and environment.
Moved is not another gym, 'Pilates Armidale' or 'yoga Armidale'. At Moved, we teach movement principles that can be applied to any move you do at any time in your day, during both exercise and non-exercise time. We show you how to be curious about your body. You will learn how to identify your own movement patterns and habits, figure out why you move the way you do and learn how that is impacting your overall health and wellbeing. The solution is in the nuances - making subtle changes to position consistently throughout your day will have a huge impact on your overall health and wellbeing.
Moved is not for a particular body type. Bodies change over time. Movement can and should be modified to suit each individual body and its needs. All classes are scaled to suit your individual needs.
I have a Certificate IV in Fitness and 10 years of experience as a movement instructor.
I follow biomechanist Katy Bowman's approach to movement and have undertaken extensive study with her company, Nutritious Movement.
My high school teaching degree and teaching experience has given me a deeper understanding of how to impart knowledge and scaffold concepts so that my clients can learn about movement and their bodies in a way that best suits them and at their own pace.
Much of my knowledge comes from my own research into movement and alignment, driven by a deep personal interest in the subject and my own physical experiences in my journey toward health and wellness. I'm a movement geek, so it's not unusual for me to be seen with some kind of movement/anatomy related text in hand - I love learning about movement!
As part of my ongoing education into movement and alignment, I have completed a range of relevant courses. I have a particular interest in the technicalities of walking and have undertaken in-depth education covering this essential movement and how to teach the elements of a healthy gait pattern.
I have also undertaken education around therapeutic mobility courses, providing me with a thorough understanding of these techniques and how to teach them to others.
'At Moved Natural Movement Studio Armidale we acknowledge the Anaiwan people who are the Traditional Owners of the land where we move, live and work. We also pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.'
