I’m Jemimah Hiscox, a movement specialist passionate about helping individuals restore and enhance their health through purposeful movement. In today’s sedentary society, the rise in lifestyle diseases reflects how we’re falling short in meeting our bodies' fundamental need for movement.
Movement is crucial for maintaining and improving health at every level, from the cellular foundation to overall well-being. It not only prevents disease and injury but also provides a host of additional benefits, such as improved mental health, better sleep, enhanced cognitive function, and increased longevity.
My mission is to help you understand that movement is far more than just exercise. It’s a pathway to unlocking your body's full potential, allowing you to move more and move with greater awareness every day.
I work with you to identify and address the 'stagnant' areas of your body—those often neglected areas that develop due to habitual movement patterns. By correcting these imbalances, we can reduce wear-and-tear, optimize alignment, and nourish your body with the movement it needs to thrive.
At Moved Armidale, we embrace a natural movement philosophy, drawing on principles from various restorative and functional movement ideologies. Our approach is tailored to meet your unique needs, seamlessly integrating these concepts into your daily life, so you can experience the full benefits of intentional, mindful movement.
Moved is not just another gym, Pilates studio, or yoga class. At Moved, we focus on teaching fundamental movement principles that can be applied to everything you do—whether you're exercising or going about your daily tasks.
We encourage you to explore and develop a deeper awareness of your body. You’ll learn to recognise your unique movement patterns, understand why you move the way you do, and see how these habits affect your overall health and wellbeing.
The key to lasting change lies in the details. By making subtle adjustments to your posture and movement throughout the day, you can create a significant impact on your long-term health and vitality.
Moved is for everyone, regardless of body type. We recognise that bodies change over time, and movement should be adaptable to meet each individual’s needs. All of our classes are tailored to suit your unique body, ensuring that movement is modified to fit you at every stage.
I hold a Certificate IV in Fitness and bring over a decade of experience as a movement instructor. My practice is grounded in the principles of biomechanist Katy Bowman, whose approach to natural, functional movement I have studied extensively through her company, Nutritious Movement.
In addition to my fitness qualifications, I hold a degree in secondary education. My background in teaching equips me with a strong foundation in instructional design and communication, enabling me to effectively break down complex movement concepts and tailor learning experiences to meet the individual needs and learning styles of my clients.
My expertise in movement and alignment is the result of both formal study and years of independent research, inspired by a deep personal interest in the human body and its capacity for healthy, sustainable movement. I am a dedicated lifelong learner—whether I’m reading about movement science or listening to a physiology podcast, I’m constantly seeking to deepen my understanding and bring fresh insight to my teaching practice.
My ongoing professional development includes a range of specialized courses in movement education. I have a particular focus on gait analysis and walking mechanics, and have undertaken in-depth training in the principles of healthy gait and how to teach them effectively. I have also studied therapeutic mobility techniques, gaining a strong foundation in methods that support joint health, functional range of motion, and injury prevention. These skills enable me to provide informed, individualised guidance for clients seeking to improve movement quality, recover from injury, or build lasting mobility.
'At Moved Natural Movement Studio Armidale we acknowledge the Anaiwan people who are the Traditional Owners of the land where we move, live and work. We also pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.'
